One of the leading voices in contemporary roots reggae, Samory I brings his powerful message, soulful vocals, and deeply conscious songwriting to Portland for a special night at Jack London Revue. Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, Samory I has emerged as a global force in reggae music, carrying forward the traditions of roots reggae while speaking directly to the realities of modern life.
Raised in the Kencot community and influenced by both church music and Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage, Samory I first gained international attention with his breakthrough debut album 'Black Gold'. The record introduced listeners to songs like “Rasta Nuh Gangsta,” which has amassed millions of views and remains one of the defining reggae songs of its generation. His acclaimed 2023 release 'Strength' further cemented his place among reggae’s most important contemporary artists, earning recognition on Rolling Stone’s list of the year’s best albums.
Known for blending spiritual awareness, social commentary, and heartfelt storytelling, Samory I has shared stages and collaborated with artists including Protoje, Jesse Royal, and some of the biggest names in modern reggae.
